About this resource
This 16-step interactive demo walks you through creating an Active Directory binding rule that automatically assigns users to groups. You will navigate to Active Directory Bindings under Configuration, add a new binding, name the rule, set a Binding Location field (such as department), enter a match value, enable Mapping Active, save the details, then search for and assign the target group. Once saved, anyone whose AD profile matches the rule joins the specified group automatically on sync.
Questions this resource answers
- What is the Binding Location field used for?
- It tells the rule where to look in the user's Active Directory profile, such as 'department'. Use dot notation for nested fields, like address.city.
- What happens if Mapping Active is turned off?
- If Mapping Active is off, the rule does nothing. You must enable it for the binding to assign users to groups.
- Can I add more than one group to a binding rule?
- Yes. After adding the first group, you can repeat the search and select steps to add more groups to the same rule.
- When does a matched user actually join the group?
- The user joins the assigned group when their account syncs from Active Directory.
